That "Un-Retouched" Photo Of Cindy Crawford Was Altered, Photographer Says

Good news! It's a total fake. Dramatically altered. Why is it good news? Because it's still a huge deception revealed all the same. And we ate it up. Feeding frenzy. Yes, it generated positive conversations about body image, made her seem more "normal", and helped us feel better about ourselves. But it's not a realistic representation of her at all which is equally unfair - like when we thought it was a major deception to cover it up. She's a mother, has worked hard, done extremely well as a supermodel and business woman who is a knockout at any age - all of which should be applauded. Plus she's in an industry where it matters. But she said little in her own defense - no denial talk-show tour. She walked away despite her (bizarre?) self-reported issues with body image. Ha ha ha! The laughs are on us!

My quest has ended. The BEST ever! NESPRESSO machine and coffee. Both are exceptional. Seriously and markedly different. Sometimes you want a fast and fantastic cup of coffee. And simple. Keurig kinda sucks. I 've used several: they're all very complicated, bizarrely noisy, and fragile. Tough to face for one cup of coffee. Sad results, the larger the cup the weaker the coffee. Everyone I know with one has or has had a broken one. The first time I tried to use a Keurig it broke. Important! All those K cups are not recyclable. I was using refillables K cups. I still needed an awesome automatic coffee maker and coffee, Keurig is not it even in combo with any brand coffee. NESPRESSO was recommended by Karen G Bates some time ago but it was far too costly. I am not familiar with them. But I found a NESPRESSO Vertuo Plus machine for 2/3 $off and I used points = no cost. Last one for the price on Amazon. Coffee Nirvana. First...the results are insanely delicious. Frothy!, rich, full bodied cup of coffee. The machine is extremely well designed, looks cool and adjusts to the coffee type (regular vs. espresso etc.) and cup size automatically. Yes, automatically without a menu or button sequences. Up to a 14 ounce cup. A tall travel cup is as full bodied as a smaller cup. And I could use a larger size. Magic! Major sell point for me, the pods are recyclable. Thanks Karen!

I'm sure there are many, but off the top of my head only one California music exception is early Jefferson Airplane. Which ultimately blew chunks when they "Built this city on rock and roll". I'll give California credit for The Doors, even though was that isn't my scene. They're okay. I never listen to them voluntarily. Hammond organ was a big non-starter for my kid brain. Even leather pants couldn't undo that organ thing. And even worse, extended organ improve. Had I been there in real time, maybe. Organ bands can be so pretentious though.

Mom and I used to go to Morris Library after school to learn French, listening to tapes. That was University School era, I was 7. I spent eons in Morris Library at SIU as a kid. Mom was doing the PhD thing and teaching, I was let loose in the library. At first I admit to mostly riding the elevator. But then what was beyond the elevator doors on each floor became interesting. Once I got taller and learned the card catalog and Dewey decimal it was on. I didn't go for precision, one book, I picked a book to find the section. Learned the Dewey of the stuff I was interested in, skip the card catalog I could find my stuff in any library. Hours of entertainment. Actually reading the entirety of things? Not so much. Too many different things to get into everywhere.

Sun Basket

I already needed to exercise long ago. Now it's an imperative. Since moving back to Illinois I've gained 10 lbs. so I'm not fitting my clothes at all. I have developed high cholesterol and I just started on high blood pressure medication at 160/110 but I've been in that range for years with an occasional 120/80. I'm just complaining. DO NOT give me info, suggestions, or tips. I know about these things. I know about nutrition, diet, exercise and weight loss. I did weigh 210. Now I don't. 160 is not tragic or meaningful, it only sucks because I can't wear awesome stuff. Good thing I had hit a stretch pants jeans sale! Pure chance. Once I'm settled into my own living again soon I may go for one of these meal things for a while. This one or Plated. I've done 2 or 3 different ones and I like them. Fresh ingredients and top quality. No grocery shopping, recipe matching with ingredients, time or food waste. For one person it's a meal and left overs.

In "Things I Love" segment today on the Ben Shapiro Show for Easter Ben has extolled upon the magnitude of greatness that is Ben Hur, the film version with Charlton Heston of course. Sigh, I forgot to watch TV to see it. I lived a long life, from early childhood, waiting to watch it every year on TV...even though I've owned it for decades. An awesome gift from older siblings. 2 VHS tapes. A costly gift in its day. Growing up, the first big events of any new year to look forward to was watching The Ten Commandments for Passover and Ben Hur for Easter on TV. Each film would take two nights to watch because they're both epics and 4 hours long with commercials. The best weekends ever! Then came Spring time and my birthday. Not always in that order. Refreshing listening. Reasoned and interesting... LOVE Ben Shapiro podcasts!! It's on the top of my must listen to list. There aren't many slots. Maybe two. Fareed Zakaria GPS on CNN and Ben Shapiro Show. Ben Shapiro has incredible reasoning, logic, and argumentative skills. He's well-sourced to back up what he says via studies, books, etc and he'll tell you when it's just his opinion, belief, religious, or other bias. And I agree with him almost in totality thus far.

Loving Your Enemies, a sermon by Martin Luther King, Jr.

Soul Food Who doesn't love to listen to MLK?! Listen and read the text. You won't but you should. You assume you understand from the title of the speech, I'm sure you do NOT because you've never heard the entire text. At least keep reading now? Jesus said to love your enemies...he did not say to like them or approve of them. These are mere sentiments. This love Jesus speaks of is like one of the Greek words for love, 'agape' - a redemptive, universal, love that seeks nothing in return. "Love is understanding, redemptive goodwill for all men, so that you love everybody, because God loves them. You refuse to do anything that will defeat an individual, because you have agape in your soul". Love that last line! This has always been my karma, mindset. A birth defect. It's tough to comprehend or explain so I'm pleased to see it in print. I wish more people shared my world view. It's so super easy. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Speech - excerpt: "The Greek language comes out with another word for love. It is the word agape. And agape is more than eros; agape is more than philia; agape is something of the understanding, creative, redemptive goodwill for all men. It is a love that seeks nothing in return. It is an overflowing love; it’s what theologians would call the love of God working in the lives of men. And when you rise to love on this level, you begin to love men, not because they are likeable, but because God loves them. You look at every man, and you love him because you know God loves him. And he might be the worst person you’ve ever seen." "And this is what Jesus means, I think, in this very passage when he says, "Love your enemy." And it’s significant that he does not say, "Like your enemy." Like is a sentimental something, an affectionate something. There are a lot of people that I find it difficult to like. I don’t like what they do to me. I don’t like what they say about me and other people. I don’t like their attitudes. I don’t like some of the things they’re doing. I don’t like them. But Jesus says love them. And love is greater than like. Love is understanding, redemptive goodwill for all men, so that you love everybody, because God loves them. You refuse to do anything that will defeat an individual, because you have agape in your soul. And here you come to the point that you love the individual who does the evil deed, while hating the deed that the person does. This is what Jesus means when he says, "Love your enemy." This is the way to do it. When the opportunity presents itself when you can defeat your enemy, you must not do it."

Texas explosions: New Austin blast 'may be tripwire-activated'

AUSTIN?!? On the BBC. Oh no. More explosions and deaths. Thought to be racially motivated, but not certain. I'm devastated. So totally not Austin, the city must be in shock. They're told to stay indoors because the 4th explosion was triggered by tripwire. The other bombs were packages left at front doors. Let's march and walk out against bombing! Oh wait, like guns and murder, we have laws against it - yet it still happens. It takes a community and vigilance to deal with crimes like these, when people cross far beyond the line there's almost always someone else who knows or is aware. "The local National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) president Nelson Linder told NBC news that the two murdered victims had links to local prominent African-American families and were connected by the same Methodist church." "With the city on high alert, a concert by hip-hop band the Roots was cancelled on Saturday [part of SXSW] after organisers received a bomb threat via e-mail."

Thorny question? No. Unless you're a recent immigrant or the descendent of one, likely you have little to no idea. They should do free DNA testing for us historical locals. Looking at my family tree tells me a list of names. Census should have been on this 300 years ago. I don't have any real affiliation with Africa. Wish I did. Except for my stepfather ๐Ÿ’•Ouedraogo Bernard ๐Ÿ’•who is from Burkina Faso, that is very meaningful to me. Far more than a distant unknown potential connection I decide to adopt and wrap in colourful fabrics. But that's just me. Everyone should do their own things and rock whatever they choose to identify with.

In my hometown where I live again now and my old university, SIU in Carbondale...Applying to graduate school now. Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages - TESOL. Hope to get a teaching assistantship. Then I can teach international undergraduates special English 101 - 102 and get tuition paid for. But I would have to take 3 grad classes at the same time. Don't know if I can handle all that. I may have blown it for the fall anyway. Hope not. Kinda scary. Okay, no, this t.a. thing is very scary. Mostly done applying. Transcripts etc turned in to the department. Got to finish the online application to the university itself. Got to get accepted to the university first. I don't see the TESOL department in Carbondale as highly sought after. No offense. Hurray! it's not in the education department!!!!

A place with lots of fabulous yarn. This pic does it no justice. Not interested in regular acrylic yarn a la Walmart or Target. If I'm going to all the time and work to knit it better be fabulous. I'm not like mom. She can make fabulous from any yarn, super complex, in multiples, fast. Without a pattern. She could knit and drive back in the day. WTF?!?! No sir, I must to watch what I'm knitting, every single stitch until I get some serious time in. Like a year. But now I can try all sorts of things with her help. She is truly a masterful knitter. Seriously. When I was a little kid (1st or 2nd grade and up)she would let me knit the plain areas - no colors or weird stitches. She would correct any mistakes I made in a flash - dropped stitches= a hole or vertical running unravel, extra stitches= misshapen. She'd just fix it and hand it back to me. (I was ready to cry, no need!) That was her cool cardigan phase - they were like coats, warm, thick and covered the butt. Lots of sisters, lots of knitting. Later she showed me how to start and finish a piece, block it, and assemble. Some cool stitches. I never made it to colors. Not yet. (It looks like a lot of work, counting, and paying attention - none of my fortes). Think my first one will be solid colored with cool designs in it. Color seems like a buzz kill right now. Unless it's a scarf, poncho, or shawl. Straight lines/sides and just stripes I can do. Exciting all around!!

United, Delta join companies that are cutting ties with NRA

I hate the NRA. But not for the same reasons you do. I don’t hate guns or Conservatives. Both are deeply rooted in the fabric of America and to be respected, each in a different way. The NRA inserted themselves into social, political, and economic arenas where they have no relevance and now ideally they pay a price. Huge companies are cutting ties with the NRA. Companies with no relationship to guns know who their current and future customers are. Mob rule works in ways I like sometimes. This time more than the loud mouths have stood up - perhaps we’ve had enough of them after they gave us Trump? A good shunning works wonders. I hope this one hurts. I'm not anti-gun at all. I respect them. I think guns are scary but fun to shoot. Hunters continue a skilled legacy, help to manage animal populations and the environment. Guns are needed for protection. I sincerely say, “Thank you” to the armed forces and law enforcement. We don’t have to carry guns daily because they do. Criminality rarely lies with legal gun owners unless you’re super stupid or a nut. An ass or idiot with a gun is an issue, legal or not. All owners who are parents without gunsafes are an issue. The NRA has become a national superpower. An ultra Conservative social and political weapon in matters unrelated to responsible gun ownership, sport, or rights. An abrasive, dominating, corrupt, and hypocritical entity. Small example tells all: my husband joined (and quit the next month) and got a free NRA hat. I grabbed the hat, AHA! of course, "Made in China". That is absolutely bullshit, unpatriotic, no leg to stand on. What hypocritics that meddle in political affairs shouting about “jobs” and "America first" when they don't support American manufacturing. No doubt that the tonnage of crap they produce to give away or sell is NOT made in America. I hate them for that alone. I just dislike the current NRA. It thrives on power held up by fostering division, hypocrisy, and ridiculous rhetoric. It was founded by two Union generals to encourage marksmanship because the enlisted soldiers were such poor shots. Sport and competition. Then they evolved focus to include promoting proper gun ownership and gun safety. Involved with hunters, individuals, and families, etc. They got political and social. In the late 1960’s, the NRA actively supported LIMITING gun rights/ownership with the government when the Black Panthers armed themselves. No comment. NRA does not listen to their own members any more than Congress does but the NRA does not have to be held to account. Until now. Get back to where you belong NRA.

Compelling narratives of Cynthia Ann Parker and her mixed son Quanah, the last chief of the Comanches - the bad asses of the American West. And the fierce 40 year battle between the Comanche and white settlers who came to take over native land during westward expansion. You don't hear much about the Comanche in American culture, in film and mind we generally think Apache and others. But it was "the fighting ability of the Comanches that determined just how and when the American West opened up."

It is a felony to lie on the 6 page background check application for gun purchase but it is rarely "if ever" prosecuted. If the application does not get a response within an allotted time period the sale is permitted. Are they being processed? So finally, it's time to get serious to enforce laws already in place? It's something that a large majority of Americans support expanding. Yet their reprentatives in the capital do not. One fact is that background checks would not have prevented the mass shootings. "However, "But the renewed emphasis on background checks would not have stopped the suspect in that shooting, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, who legally purchased several firearms — including an AK-47 within the past month." AR-15, AK, or semi-auto or plain handgun can kill. AR-15 and AK are more lethal by far. The Vegas shooter was able to kill many from a distance. But a hunting rifle can do that, not as many deaths. There has to be more or something else than a single gun ban. That just doesn't make sense. Law enforcement agencies taking reports more seriously and acting on them. That would have prevented this last shooting in Florida. Maybe the psychos that shot up the Colorado movie theater or the Sandy Hook grade school. But not the Las Vegas shooter. *There was an armed officer on the scene in Florida who did not enter the school. Arming teachers is ridiculous and appalling. Facing and shooting a human being takes more than a gun. I have no idea what the answer is. I know what does work. Go to a Jewish school or place where Jewish children gather. You cannot get near them, let alone with a gun. They have heavy security plans and methods. The Jewish community center in Austin stops every car that arrives with a guard and gate you need a pass to enter. It doesn't even let the public know where the children are located on the campus. Not even when you're on the campus, there's no signs, nothing.

LOVE this band, NIYAZ. Makes me have to jump up bust a move! "NIYAZ has created a 21st century global trance tradition by seamlessly blending medieval Sufi poetry and folk songs from their native Iran and its surrounding countries in the Persian Gulf, with rich acoustic instrumentation and state-of-the-art modern electronics." Remember Whirling Dervishes? They are Sufi Muslims. The great poet Rumi was a dervish, see Rumi Quotes. Valentina Lisitsa plays Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2

Since early childhood, I have LOVED this piece!! Little kid. Don't recall how old, I could read beyond basics. But the songs I wanted to play didn't have words, so it did not matter. I spent many childhood years trying to learn THIS, progressively as I aged. It was a life project. Well thru college or anytime I accessed a piano, rare. I'd pick it back up without question had I a piano now. I had first heard a recording which I loved immediately, well enough to memorize the name "Liszt" (I couldn't spell it) and "Hungarian". Don't know how I heard the recording at home. I matched its title and artist with the music from one of Elaine's piano books by chance - I recognized it in the book "Liszt" and "Hungarian". I guessed by looking at the music on the page. It sounds very wide on the keyboard, I could tell by the music notation (that I couldn't really read) it too was hugely expansive. I started to try it. It was the right one! There are a few. I still recall the thrill! Deep bass keys you never touch were played in this. So beautifully. Took forever to find them, many were below into the space with no lines on the music notation. I'd still have to count out those notes. Grueling effort that got "easier" with the years. I made it from the beginning thru more and more of the piece over the years. Stanza by stanza. Had to figure out each note one by one. Anything below Middle C and above A on the right hand, I had to count out each note on the keys and the page - one by one. All left hand I had to count out. Treble clef Spaces: F,A,C,E. Lines: E,G,B,D,F. Every good boy does fine. Bass clef was different. Left hand. And I've forgotten. Starts with Spaces: A,C,E,G? All cows eat grass. Lines?? Don't recall. Who was home with me tolerating all this?! At mom's and dad's places. I would have choked me - "stop playing the same stupid thing over and over!!" Hence, I don't have kids. In some ways I wish I had been able to see this back then. It would have helped. On the other hand I don't think I would have been inspired after watching this. What was I thinking?! Totally determined. Loved doing it. So difficult but an awesome reward each session. I must admit, I lacked her flourishes and feathery touch. I want to play the piano! Bet I can still play the very beginning from memory. It's etched in my DNA.

Annabell Hoskins - Sunday, January 7th, 2018

It's not my place to post this. Apologies to the family. My dear cousins. I love you guys so very much! I'm so sorry for your heavy loss, regardless of what circumstances there may have been. Be it natural, tragic, or illness, the pain doesn't lessen with any reason. This is very deep in my personal karma. And my life. My family life. My childhood. My joy. A nurturer. She was so many things. Wise, witty, and sharp. Gentle and calm, like a springtime shower. My dearest Aunt Annabell. Aunt Annabell was deeply cherished and loved by so many - but few more than me. She was a truly beautiful human being with a strong but gentle zen-like nature. From little kid on up, I had spent countless hours and days at their house with my cousin Sandy - her youngest, and we with the next oldest Brenda once we got older and fun. Aunt Annabell had the kind of sweet voice, calmness, and smile, that crushed everything bad in your world when she spoke to you. Magical! I can't believe I'll never hear it again. I'm thankful that I have. She was my dad's sister in law. To me she was a mother when I visited my father all those summers. I love her so very much despite my absence. I cherish the bountiful blessing that her life bestowed upon me and will do so forever. I did chat with her a couple of years ago by chance, Sandy wasn't home. What a delight! I never knew that she talked much. But happily we both did for quite some time that day and a visit or two later. Random memories to lighten the moment... I had never seen, heard, or eaten, sloppy joes before Aunt Annabell made them and invited me for dinner (again and again). OMG! What delish! I still chow them down. I must end this with a bit of levity. Sandy and I were home with Aunt Annabell. Someone came to the door. Very rare on a week day. Sandy and I didn't know who it was. But Aunt Annabell did and she jumped ship! She ran downstairs and out the back door. We saw her go across the back yard from the upstairs window. I imagine so that she or we didn't have to lie and say she wasn't there. I don't recall if we even answered the door. I think so. It was just a guy with a white short-sleeved dress shirt and tie. It was a Jehovah's Witness. Ha ha ha!!! I'm sure she couldn't tell them to leave her alone. And she wasn't a liar. I love that one! She was a beautiful human being. A gem in my crown of life.

Oh no no no! Please, I want a president who went to law school, has held in an elected office and dealt with political insiders - something tangible. While she can't be as bad or worse than Trump - he is no measure of anything good. That's not enough. On the other hand, Oprah has dealt with a massive set of epic hurdles in her life with immeasurable success. She is brilliant, reads books, a thinker and doer. And most of all, a leader! She's created and done many things. Dealt with powerful people at the highest levels. She could be a true powerhouse after Obama's thwarted actions and Trump's overreactions. I admit, what I really fear is her politics. And potential assassination. Just as Oprah that would be a huge loss. But the heavy black framed glasses look so serious and smart. Like her!
