NIYAZ- Sabza Ba Naz (The Triumph of Love) Official Music Video

LOVE this band, NIYAZ. Makes me have to jump up bust a move! "NIYAZ has created a 21st century global trance tradition by seamlessly blending medieval Sufi poetry and folk songs from their native Iran and its surrounding countries in the Persian Gulf, with rich acoustic instrumentation and state-of-the-art modern electronics." Remember Whirling Dervishes? They are Sufi Muslims. The great poet Rumi was a dervish, see Rumi Quotes. Nayiz is heavily influenced, if not based on that music tradition so it has a trance-like undercurrent layered with percussive elements. They do the best folk music hammered dulcimer ever, Aaron Lisec. ;) Below: Song from a new favorite CD called "The Fourth Light". Last year, I had done research and a blog post about the first female Sufi mystic and poet Rabia Al Basr, 8th century Iraq. What an awesome coincidence! "In can be said that The Fourth Light is in many ways a feminist album. The central figure who served as the main source of inspiration for the music is the first female Sufi mystic and poet Rabia Al Basri, who was born in the 8th century in Iraq. She was a woman born into extreme poverty during a time when women’s rights were severely constrained. Sold into slavery at a young age, Rabia defied the odds and managed to find the inner strength and resolve that would eventually lead to her liberation both as a woman as well as a spiritual figure. “Rabia’s struggles even in the 8th century,” Azam adds, “remain quite relevant to our time when women continue to strive to rise above the status of inferiority placed upon them by many patriarchal societies around the world.”

Valentina Lisitsa plays Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2

Since early childhood, I have LOVED this piece!! Little kid. Don't recall how old, I could read beyond basics. But the songs I wanted to play didn't have words, so it did not matter. I spent many childhood years trying to learn THIS, progressively as I aged. It was a life project. Well thru college or anytime I accessed a piano, rare. I'd pick it back up without question had I a piano now. I had first heard a recording which I loved immediately, well enough to memorize the name "Liszt" (I couldn't spell it) and "Hungarian". Don't know how I heard the recording at home. I matched its title and artist with the music from one of Elaine's piano books by chance - I recognized it in the book "Liszt" and "Hungarian". I guessed by looking at the music on the page. It sounds very wide on the keyboard, I could tell by the music notation (that I couldn't really read) it too was hugely expansive. I started to try it. It was the right one! There are a few. I still recall the thrill! Deep bass keys you never touch were played in this. So beautifully. Took forever to find them, many were below into the space with no lines on the music notation. I'd still have to count out those notes. Grueling effort that got "easier" with the years. I made it from the beginning thru more and more of the piece over the years. Stanza by stanza. Had to figure out each note one by one. Anything below Middle C and above A on the right hand, I had to count out each note on the keys and the page - one by one. All left hand I had to count out. Treble clef Spaces: F,A,C,E. Lines: E,G,B,D,F. Every good boy does fine. Bass clef was different. Left hand. And I've forgotten. Starts with Spaces: A,C,E,G? All cows eat grass. Lines?? Don't recall. Who was home with me tolerating all this?! At mom's and dad's places. I would have choked me - "stop playing the same stupid thing over and over!!" Hence, I don't have kids. In some ways I wish I had been able to see this back then. It would have helped. On the other hand I don't think I would have been inspired after watching this. What was I thinking?! Totally determined. Loved doing it. So difficult but an awesome reward each session. I must admit, I lacked her flourishes and feathery touch. I want to play the piano! Bet I can still play the very beginning from memory. It's etched in my DNA.

Toni Hoskin and family planted a memorial tree for Annabell Hoskins

I am posting this late - I just saw it online. For the sake of memory...I wrote this with the memorial tree I had planted, instead of flowers: "Aunt Annabell you are the bountiful blessing that nutured me so lovingly for so many years. My heart swells with the sound of your sweet voice, even if it's now only a dream. Our love together will nurture a new life in nature. One that will prosper and grow stronger with each year. Until it returns to us in the earth where all ends and begins anew. I love you Aunt Annabell...and I'm sorry I've misspelled your name for 50 years! :)"

Annabell Hoskins - Sunday, January 7th, 2018

It's not my place to post this. Apologies to the family. My dear cousins. I love you guys so very much! I'm so sorry for your heavy loss, regardless of what circumstances there may have been. Be it natural, tragic, or illness, the pain doesn't lessen with any reason. This is very deep in my personal karma. And my life. My family life. My childhood. My joy. A nurturer. She was so many things. Wise, witty, and sharp. Gentle and calm, like a springtime shower. My dearest Aunt Annabell. Aunt Annabell was deeply cherished and loved by so many - but few more than me. She was a truly beautiful human being with a strong but gentle zen-like nature. From little kid on up, I had spent countless hours and days at their house with my cousin Sandy - her youngest, and we with the next oldest Brenda once we got older and fun. Aunt Annabell had the kind of sweet voice, calmness, and smile, that crushed everything bad in your world when she spoke to you. Magical! I can't believe I'll never hear it again. I'm thankful that I have. She was my dad's sister in law. To me she was a mother when I visited my father all those summers. I love her so very much despite my absence. I cherish the bountiful blessing that her life bestowed upon me and will do so forever. I did chat with her a couple of years ago by chance, Sandy wasn't home. What a delight! I never knew that she talked much. But happily we both did for quite some time that day and a visit or two later. Random memories to lighten the moment... I had never seen, heard, or eaten, sloppy joes before Aunt Annabell made them and invited me for dinner (again and again). OMG! What delish! I still chow them down. I must end this with a bit of levity. Sandy and I were home with Aunt Annabell. Someone came to the door. Very rare on a week day. Sandy and I didn't know who it was. But Aunt Annabell did and she jumped ship! She ran downstairs and out the back door. We saw her go across the back yard from the upstairs window. I imagine so that she or we didn't have to lie and say she wasn't there. I don't recall if we even answered the door. I think so. It was just a guy with a white short-sleeved dress shirt and tie. It was a Jehovah's Witness. Ha ha ha!!! I'm sure she couldn't tell them to leave her alone. And she wasn't a liar. I love that one! She was a beautiful human being. A gem in my crown of life.

Sources: Oprah Winfrey 'actively thinking' about running for president

Oh no no no! Please, I want a president who went to law school, has held in an elected office and dealt with political insiders - something tangible. While she can't be as bad or worse than Trump - he is no measure of anything good. That's not enough. On the other hand, Oprah has dealt with a massive set of epic hurdles in her life with immeasurable success. She is brilliant, reads books, a thinker and doer. And most of all, a leader! She's created and done many things. Dealt with powerful people at the highest levels. She could be a true powerhouse after Obama's thwarted actions and Trump's overreactions. I admit, what I really fear is her politics. And potential assassination. Just as Oprah that would be a huge loss. But the heavy black framed glasses look so serious and smart. Like her!
